NEWBERRY, SC (WACH / AP) - A Chapin man has been arrested for claiming to be a personal bodyguard for South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.

Newberry County sheriff's deputies said Monday that 39-year-old William Scott Fowler had been charged with impersonating a police office and soliciting business as a private investigator.

Deputies say they got a complaint a man was portraying himself as a State Law Enforcement Division agent assigned to the governor's security detail.

According to a warrant issued by SLED, Fowler is accused of presenting forged documents to obtain a law enforcement license plate for his vehicle last July. He also presented himself as a private investigator. Unless one has a license provided by SLED, it is illegal to work as a private investigator in South Carolina.

It wasn't known if Fowler has an attorney.
