COLUMBIA (WACH) - Former USC head football coach Lou Holtz is flying back to the coop to address the class of 2012.
Holtz led the Gamecocks from 1999-2004. Holtz, who now works for ESPN as an on-air commentator, has been back to Columbia just a handful of times since retiring from coaching in 2004. He has rarely made public appearances in Columbia since leaving the football program.
Holtz is widely credited for fixing a football program that was left in shambles. Holtz's 1999 squad was winless, but in the 2000 season Holtz led the Gamecocks to a 9-3 record and a victory in the Outback Bowl. He left USC in 2004 with a career record of 249-132-7.
The 3:30 p.m. ceremony for baccalaureate, master’s and professional-degree recipients from all eight campuses will be in the Colonial Life Arena.
