COLUMBIA (WACH / AP) - A tribute to missing Columbia teen Gabbiee Swainson was held Sunday evening at the Village at Sandhills.
The celebration featured music, face-painting, and raffle door prizes. The 15-year-old has been missing since August 18.
Organizer April Gillard said she hopes events like these will make sure people will remember the Ridgeview High School student.
"I feel it is very important to keep her name out in the media so people don't tend to forget about her," said Gillard.
Village at Sandhills General Manager Jeff Harper said he was asked to host the event from Gabbiee's mother Elvia; and that it is the least he can do.
"Seeing as how the Village is apparently one of Gabbiee's favorite places to visit, Ms. Swainson thought it was appropriate to have us host the event; which we are happy to do so,"said Harper.
In addition, the Richland County Sheriff's Department was also there offering finger-prints for children in case of emergency.
Fifty-two-year-old Freddie Grant is charged with kidnapping in the teen's disappearance. Deputies say the girl's blood was found on duct tape near Grant's home.
