Suspect accused in Five Points shooting identified

COLUMBIA (WACH) - Police have identified a man wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred outside a Five Points restaurant in July.

Chief Randy Scott says investigators with the Columbia Police Department have outstanding arrest warrants for 22-year-old Billy Jo Downs, Jr. Once arrested, he is expected to be charged with attempted murder, attempted armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and discharging a firearm into an occupied conveyance.

According to police, Downs is accused of approaching a person sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot of the Cook Out restaurant in Five Points with a gun, demanding money and firing the gun as the victim attempted to drive away on July 21. A bullet grazed the victim's shoulder.

Authorities say Downs is a former employee of the Cook Out restaurant. He is believed to have connections to the Greenville / Spartanburg area.
