SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- The South Carolina Highway Patrol says it has made an arrest in the hit-and-run accident that sent four Summerville area children to the hospital over the weekend.
Patrol Cpl. Bob Beres said the suspect was in custody Tuesday and more details would be released later.
Three of the children remain at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital and all are expected to recover. The fourth child was released on Sunday.
The Highway Patrol says the children ages 10 through 14 had left a house in a subdivision east of town when they were hit about 11:30 p.m. Saturday. The driver did not stop.
Family members said the kids went outside to reach a Wi-Fi hotspot on their smartphones when they were hit.
