SC teacher of the year honored

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH/AP) -- The State Board of Education is scheduled to honor South Carolina's teacher of the year at its meeting.

Johnsonville High School English teacher Amy McAllister-Skinner is an invited guest of the board at Wednesday afternoon's meeting.

McAllister-Skinner is the second consecutive high school English teacher to receive the statewide honor. Last year's winner was Patti Tate from Northwestern High School in Rock Hill.

As part of winning the award, McAllister-Skinner recieved a new BMW for the year as well as $25,000.

The board will also honor the other four finalists: Summit Drive Elementary fifth grade teacher Taunja Pool; Doby's Mill Elementary music teacher Helen Walker; Pair Education Center social studies teacher Philip Rabon II; and A.C. Flora High School biology teacher Patricia Swinton.
