CHARLESTON (WACH/AP)- The Rev. Jesse Jackson and lawmakers from the South Carolina Lowcountry are calling for a ban on assault weapons after the movie theater shootings in Aurora, Colorado.
Jackson visited Charleston on Thursday and held a news conference with state lawmakers.
The civil rights leader says he doesn't object to people having guns at home for protection or for hunting.
But he says outlawing high powered weapons simply designed to kill a lot of people does not violate someone's right to bear arms.
Jackson says the nation should not underestimate the threat of terrorism at home.
