COLUMBIA (WACH) - A sketch of the man accused in the most recent indecent exposure incident in the Shandon area has been released by the Columbia Police Department.
Chief Randy Scott says the composite sketch may look similar to the man accused of indecent exposure on July 7 in the Shandon area of Columbia. The sketch comes courtesy of a forensic artist from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
According to Scott, the suspect is described as a thin male, possibly between the ages of 20 to 30 years old, with a medium build and a dark, "Beatles-style" haircut with bangs reaching his eyebrows.
Authorities say two women were walking South on Walker Street Saturday, July 7 around 8:30 a.m. When they approached Heyward Street, one of the women saw a man standing with his shorts at his ankles fondling himself. The woman who saw the man told the other woman what she saw after continuing to walk for about a block.
The police report states the women ran back to where the man was last seen. When the man saw the women returning, he ran North on Walker Street with his face covered and left in a white SUV.
The license plate information, make or model of the vehicle is currently unknown, but police say the women described the vehicle as having a "box-style."
According to a spokesperson with the department, the girls called 9-1-1 to report the incident.
The case has been assigned to the Special Victims Unit.
Similar cases were reported to police in December 2011 and January 2012 in the same area. Officers are working to determine if the incidents are related.
