RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WACH) - One person was taken to a local hospital following a Tuesday morning house fire.

According to Columbia-Richland Fire Department spokesman Brick Lewis, the fire started at a home near Piney Grove Road around 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Lewis says firefighters observed heavy smoke and flames when they arrived at the scene. One person was located at the scene and was taken to the hospital for burn related injuries. The victim's condition has not been released.

The cause of the fire is currently unkown, but investigators say there is approximately $50,000 in damages to the property.
