Drunk driver sentenced in role in deadly 2009 accident

Columbia, SC (WACH) – A driver in a deadly  drunken driving incident that killed two Allen University students is sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Tuesday, in Richland County, Jabari Harding pleaded guilty to two counts of Reckless Homicide and was sentenced to prison for a term of ten years on each charge, to be served concurrently.

Jabari Harding was originally charged with three counts of Felony DUI, resulting from a traffic accident on August 30, 2009 at the intersection of Gervais and Harden Streets.

Two Allen University students, Jerry Blandin and Courtney Williams, died in the collision. Another student suffered brain injuries and the driver of the vehicle was uninjured in the accident.

At the time of the accident, Harding had recently returned from overseas military service and was stationed at Fort Jackson for drill sergeant training.

Harding previously pleaded guilty in this case in November of 2010.  The Judge took  the matter under advisement and defendant was allowed to withdraw his plea in 2011.
