LEXINGTON, SC (WACH) - During the summer months in South Carolina, even a light breeze can bring relief.

The Lexington Police Department is working to make sure residents of Lexington stay cool through the annual Fan Donation Program.

Those who are citizens of the town and are in need of a fan this summer can go to the police department for assistance.

Fans are donated as a community effort to help others.

Cpl. Doug Lee is concerned for the safety of the citizens in the Town of Lexington throughout the year.

"It is really important to keep our seniors cool during these hot summer months. Not only do we take fans and give them out to our residents, but we also go and check on them during extreme temperatures, especially in the summer time. And in the middle of the winter we check on them," said Lee.

Members of the Community Action Team will assist people who need to pick up or drop of fans Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the department on 111 Maiden Lane in Lexington.

There is a limit of one fan per household.
