COLUMBIA (WACH) - A former football player for the University of South Carolina was arrested by the Richland County Sheriff's Department for criiminal sexual conduct charges Thursday.
Sheriff Leon Lott says Kentrell "Kenny" Lafette Davis, 21, turned himself in to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center around 6 p.m. Thursday and was charged with third degree criminal sexual conduct.
Davis is accused of sexually assualting a 21-year-old female victim around 11 p.m. Thursday, May 31.
According to the department, the victim claims Davis had sexual intercourse with her without her consent after leaving Five Points in Columbia on May 31.
Davis was offensive lineman with the Gamecocks for four seasons. He would have been a fifth-year senior in the fall.
A spokesman with the athletic department says Davis was informed well before this incident that his scholarship would not be renewed.
Lott says Davis is detained at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
