COLUMBIA (WACH) - Two well known South Carolinians are helping foster children find homes.

First gentlemen Michael Haley and singer Edwin McCain announced Friday that they will be spokesmen for the South Carolina Heart Gallery's "Open your hearts, open your doors" ad campaign at the statehouse.

The program is supported by the Children's Foster Care Review Board and the Department of Social Services. The partnership will help recruit more adoptive families. Local photographers provided portraits of children; which will be displayed around the state.

McCain, who was adopted as a child, said the initiative will make a big difference to children.

I'm an adopted son. I'm an adoptive father. If it wasn't for programs like this, I don't know where I would be. It is more than statistics. It is more than the numbers. It's the faces. These are kids with unlimited potential."

The First Gentleman was unable to attend the press conference because of prior commitments with the South Carolina National Guard.
