COLUMBIA (WACH)—Gas continues to be on the way up, rising 3.4 per gallon over the last week, to an average of $3.70, according to www.columbiagasprices.com.

Nationally, the rise is only a slightly slower at 3.2 cents to an average of $3.89.

According to the website, the price per gallon of gas is 22.2 cents higher than it was on the same day last year in the Midlands, and 14.8 cents higher than a month ago.  The national comparison is 26.8 cents higher today than this time last year.

GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan said "The national average has finally showed some signs of slowing down, and gasoline prices in dozens of areas have virtually stabilized after rising for two to three consecutive weeks.”  DeHaan went on to say that “maybe- just maybe- gasoline prices are closer to a peak than we initially expected,"
