COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - Football players often run into "hairy" situations on the field but a few Gamecocks will be donating their hair for a good cause.
Between the hours of 3:15 - 3:30 p.m. Saturday, several Gamecocks will be shaving their heads at the annual St. Baldricks day event at Jillian's on Gervais Street in The Congaree Vista.
Krystle Eckrote with the event said she couldn't release the players names, but they are some "pretty well-known players."
In 2010, a few Gamecock football players came out and shaved their heads in solidarity of the children.
St. Baldrick's is the worlds largest volunteer based charity committed to raising money for childhood cancer research by shaving peoples' heads.
Participants sign up to shave their head and gather donations from friends, family, co-workers, etc, and the event is open to everyone. This year's event already has more than 130 registered "shavees."
The Columbia St. Baldricks Charity event will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
