COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Railroad officials are joining with Columbia police to pass out safety information at one of the city's most dangerous rail crossings.

Police Chief Randy Scott says he hopes he can save lives by handing out the safety tips. He will be joined by Norfolk Southern railroad's Columbia Safety Committee.

Officers and railroad officials will be at the crossing near the corner of Greene and Laurens streets, about three blocks from the Five Points entertainment district around 9 a.m. Wednesday.
