COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - Mothers Against Drunk Driving testified Wednesday in front of a panel backing a DUI law reform in South Carolina.

Supporters from MADD and those who have lost love ones in DUI accident's sat in on the meeting to hear the progress of the Interlock Law.

The law would require all DUI offenders to have a breathalyzer on the dashboard of their car, which would trigger their ignition according to their Blood Alcohol Content (BAC).

More than 600 repeat offenders have interlock devices on their cars in the state, and MADD is pushing for more.

"Its an obtrusive technology and MADD believes if you violate the public's trust and drive drunk it's not too much to ask for this device to be on your vehicle, because not only does it help the defender rehabilitate but it also protects the public," said Frank Harris from MADD.

There are 14 states that have Interlock Laws which are mandatory for all offender's.

Legislators and the DMV still have to review details of the law before they move forward with anything.
