COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Senate Democrats in South Carolina say their priorities for 2012 include allowing voters to recall state officers, creating a small business division within the Commerce Department, and supporting public schools.
The Senate Democratic Caucus announced its priorities Wednesday for the session that started this week.
Democrats' agenda includes asking voters in November whether they want to change the state constitution to allow recall elections. South Carolina is among 31 states without a recall provision.
Democrats want a commerce division specifically for recruiting new small businesses and helping existing ones. Their tax reform proposal would give each taxpayer a receipt itemizing where their tax dollars are going in state government.
In the Senate, there are 19 Democrats and 27 Republicans. Democrats are in the minority in both legislative chambers.
