Hundreds of thousands of dollars raised in the fight to cure diabetes

Columbia, SC (WACH) --- The Palmetto Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation held it`s awards reception for the 2011 Columbia Walk To Cure Diabetes Tuesday night.

Many were honored for both team and individual fundraising efforts in the fight to cure Type 1 Diabetes.  Over $331,000 was raised at the Columbia walk, which was held this past October.

JDRF Palmetto is still taking donations.  All donations are tax deductable.

Juvenile Diabetes, or Type 1 Diabetes is a disorder of the body`s immune system inwhich one can no longer produce insulin in their body.  When this happens diabetics must manually inject insulin into their body.

It`s not too late to get involved with JDRF, the 15th annual "Wings of Love Gala" is set for Saturday March 3, 2012.  The event will be held in Columbia at the Medallion Center from 6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.  For more information about the event, or JDRF`s mission, visit JDRF Palmetto`s website, at www.jdrfpalmetto.org.
