COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Occupy Columbia protesters plan to let the Budget and Control Board know they are against proposed rules banning tents used for camping and sleeping on Statehouse grounds.
The board is set to meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, and the only item on the agenda are new regulations meant to end the around-the-clock protests going on at the Statehouse for over two months.
Governor Nikki Haley has placed an Emergency Regulation on the agenda to prohibit campig on the statehouse grounds. The governor will argue that camping out at the Statehouse is "An imminent peril to publilc health, safety and or welfare."
Occupy Columbia protesters sent an email to supporters Monday asking them to show up at the meeting and call members beforehand.
A federal judge ruled last week the protesters and their tents could stay on the capitol grounds until regulations were put in place outlawing the activities.
