KERSHAW COUNTY (WACH) -- A 43-year-old man, who deputies say also had a five year old girl in the car, is charged with driving under the influence and child endangerment according to the Kershaw County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies say that on Saturday Bryan Oneal Jackson pulled his car off the side of Interstate 20 near exit 101. When deputies arrived they say they found the girl in the car and Jackson passed out behind the wheel with the car in drive and engine running.
Deputies say Jackson failed a field sobriety test, and registered a 0.17 on a “breathalyzer” exam. The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.08.
Jackson was arrested for DUI and child endangerment and taken to the Kershaw County Detention Center. Deputies transported the girl and released her to her grandmother.
“Driving while intoxicated is in and of itself irresponsible. Having a little girl in the vehicle, who had no choice in being there, takes irresponsibility to a new level. Child endangerment charges are totally appropriate in this case,” said Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews.
Jackson is one of six drivers charged with DUI over the past weekend by the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office newly funded DUI team.
