COLUMBIA (WACH) -- There's a new face at the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden in Columbia.
An unnamed baby male giraffe is now on display between 9:30 am and 12:30 p.m. in the zoo's African Savanna exhibit.
Zoo officials say the calf was born on July 11 to parents Charlie and Ginger.
“We are very excited about this latest addition to our giraffe herd,” said John Davis, curator of mammals. “The calf is doing very well and growing at a steady pace, but he won’t be full grown until about 5 years old.”
Despite being only four weeks old, the giraffe is already taller than most people. Adult giraffes can grow to be almost 20 feet tall and weigh up to 2,600 pounds.
This is the fifth giraffe to be born at Riverbanks since 2009. The most recent, Isabelle, was born last year on Labor Day.
