COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Over the next few days, families will fill the aisles of stores looking for back to school deals.

Staff at the Salvation Army hope shoppers will stop by the Clothes for Kids table at Columbia Place Mall to help children in the community who do not have clothing or shoes to start the school year.

Seth Taylor, Public Relations and Volunteer Coordinator, said, "we would just ask that you please consider some other families who may be in need who can't afford new clothes and new shoes."

The Salvation Army identified more than 100 children through Social Services and homeless shelters who need assistance.

"We are inviting shoppers to come out and purchase brand new clothes and shoes and school supplies for these children who are in need," Taylor said.

The Clothes for Kids drive is similar to the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program around the holidays.

Shoppers can select a card that lists a child in need along with their clothing sizes. Shoppers are asked to buy new clothes and return the donations by 5 p.m. Sunday August 7.

Taylor added, "buy an extra couple of shirts an extra couple of pairs of pants and shoes and then bring it to our table and the Salvation Army will distribute to the needy families on August 11 and 12."

The Clothes for Kids table is located in Columbia Place Mall at the inside entrance of Burlington Coat Factory.
