COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Police say they've made an arrest in connection to a recent rash of cab driver robberies in Columbia.
Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott says 18-year-old Janoblin Bracy-Brown was involved two of three recent taxi cab armed robberies. Investigators are still looking for a second suspect.
Brown is charged with attempted murder, armed robbery and assault and battery, on top of weapons and drug charges.
The robberies, including one that left a cab driver hospitalized from a gunshot wound, happened over the past three weeks.
Officials say the suspects called for rides, then pull guns on the victims and demand money.
The cab driver who was shot is doing well according to co-workers. Police continue their investigation and say they're working on leads.
“The Columbia Police Department has offered safety tips to several cab companies to help them minimize the chance of their employees becoming victims of violent crimes,” Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott says.
Those safety tips include:
-Know your emergency procedures -Rely on the cab radio during an emergency -Keep doors and windows locked -Be aware of your surroundings -Be aware of your passengers (Make a mental note of their appearance in case you need to identify them later) -Don’t flash money or jewelry -Do not resist a robbery
