KERSHAW COUNTY (WACH) -- Kershaw County Deputies are now more protected while on duty.

Sheriff Jim Matthews says he can rest easier now that most of his deputies have bullet proof vests thanks to Invest, a company that gets body armor to departments that don't have them.

Michael Letts of Invest heard about Sheriff Matthews search to protect his force and offered to help.

Letts' efforts were realized today in the form of a $26,600 donation.

“I walked into my office and someone said that the body armor is here,” Matthews said Friday.  "Four large boxes containing 38 bullet proof vests manufactured by GH Armor Systems, each specifically measured for the individual deputies, were sitting on the floor."

Only ten officers are left without the vests, but Matthews is working to supply one of the $700 vests to each of them.
