COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina legislators are attempting to wrap up their work on the last day of the regular session.
State law requires the session to end at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Legislators have agreed to return for a special session later this month, but they're limited in what they can take up.
Issues still hanging include creating a Cabinet-level Department of Administration. Gov. Nikki Haley is pushing senators to approve the measure that would move much of the state's bureaucracy into the new agency under her control.
Work on a proposed $6 billion general fund spending plan for 2011-12 also remains. The House and Senate are expected to appoint a conference committee to hash out differences in their plans. That would allow them to finish the budget when they return June 14.
