Storms leave behind damage, power outages in Upstate

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WACH, WHNS) -- More rain and thunderstorms are expected across South Carolina on Friday.

Storms on Thursday evening left about 6,000 homes without power. Hardest hit areas were near Spartanburg and Greenville.

Emergency officials in the western Carolinas got calls about property damage and blocked roads after a series of powerful thunderstorms swept through the area Thursday.

Part of the roof was ripped off the Townville Fire Department on Highway 24 in Anderson County.

Fire crews said lighting struck the Regency at Chandler Park apartment complex on Highway 14 in Greer. The fire sparked a small fire in the attic. The apartments were evacuated for a short time until firefighters contained the fire.

Damage was also reported in Berea, where a tree landed on top of a house on Highlawn Avenue. Other trees and power lines were also knocked down in Berea.

Officials from the southern to eastern Upstate reported downed trees and power lines.

Duke Energy has reported thousands of power outages across the Carolinas.

There were no reports of injuries caused by Thursday night's storms.
