Lowcountry soldier killed in Afghanistan

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WACH, WCIV, AP) -- A soldier from the Lowcountry was among four soldiers killed by a road side bomb Monday in Afghanistan according to the Army.

The Defense Department says 21-year-old Pvt. Cheizray Pressley from North Charleston, as well as 29-year-old Spc. Bradley Louis Melton, 26-year-old Pvt. Lamarol Jerome Tucker and 29-year-old Staff Sgt. David D. Self were killed in the attack.

All but Self were assigned to the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. The 4,000-Soldier brigade began deploying to Afghanistan in mid-April for a one-year tour in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Self was from the 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany.

Pressley was from North Charleston, S.C. He joined the Army in September 2010.

The attack took place in the city of Spin Ghbarga, in Zabul Province.
