Mother's Day is a time to recognize the achievements of all mothers. But one South Carolina group is hoping to elevate the state's most special mom for a high honor.
Nominations are now open for South Carolina's next mother of the year. Nominees must be sponsored by a religious organization, school, civic group or charity. Nominations are accepted through Oct. 1.
In April, Gov. Nikki Haley recognized Marianna Black Habisreutinger of Spartanburg as the state's mother of the year.
A former elementary school teacher, Habisreutinger is a founder and trustee of a foundation for a center for mentally and physically handicapped people. She also serves on the boards for Spartanburg Methodist College and the Cancer Association of Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties Inc.
