Sen. Graham won't take paycheck in event of shutdown

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina's two U.S. senators and South Carolina's Lindsey Graham promise they won't take a paycheck if a budget impasse forces the federal government to shut down.

The deadline for a agreement is midnight Friday

At least two dozen senators have promised to forgo a paycheck for as long as a shutdown is in effect. North Carolina Republican Richard Burr and Democrat Kay Hagan, and South Carolina Republican Graham have signed the pledge.

South Carolina Republican Jim DeMint says he would donate his pay to charity.Spokesman Wesley Denton says the senator is working to prevent a government shutdown.

Burr and Graham say they will contribute their salaries to the treasury.
