MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) -- A group studying whether beach rules should be uniform along South Carolina's Grand Strand is hearing from beach service officials, beach patrol officers and representatives of local campgrounds.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports the Coastal Alliance, made up of representatives of local governments, hears the presentations on Wednesday.

Communities along the Grand Strand on the northern coast are looking at standardizing rules for everything from dogs and tents on the beach to kiteboarding in the surf.

Current rules differ by community and that can be confusing for the estimated 14 million visitors who come to the area beaches each year.
