Service Unavailable: A Smartphone Intervention - Day 4

Things are going well. Oh yeah, I cheated.
COLUMBIA (WACH) -- So in my last post I promised I'd talk about the use of landlines, but before I get to that I have to admit something. I hang my head in shame to say I picked up a smartphone today.
In my defense, it was a dire situation. I am one day away from losing my mayorship of WACH Fox on Foursquare, a location based social networking platform. It's just a 'game' and I admit I take it a little too far. I couldn't lose that mayorship to Kevin, our assignment editor who sits next to me.
So out of greed, not habit, I picked up a Blackberry that was left on a desk nearby and called up Foursquare to check-in and retain my mayorship for one more day. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, I didn't get to check in and tomorrow morning Kevin will reign over the station.
Some say I cheated. I say I never got around to cheating. It's your call. Leave a message below. Either way, I'm still going along with Service Unavailable until my full week without my phone is up.
Now on to my thoughts on landlines. I don't have one. I haven't had one for about nine years now and have no interest in getting one. I just have no use and according to several reports, neither do most consumers below the age of 30.
It's a fact that landlines are dying a slow death. According to a recent study over 50 percent of people 25 to 29 don't have one. In fact, I don't know anyone my age who has owned a landline in the past few years and they don't plan on getting one.
In my opinion, why would you need a landline when you could have a cell phone for around the same monthly cost, only you can make a call, among other things, from almost anywhere.
However, I can still see a use for landlines in an office setting, but even those could be replaced.
What do you think? Will landline telephones be items only found in museums in the near future? Weigh in below in the comment section or let me know on Twitter @chrisabbotts.
