COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina's Supreme Court says former Gov. Mark Sanford was wrong when he meddled with funding for the state's financial oversight board.

The court ruled unanimously Monday his veto was unconstitutional because governors cannot pick and choose funding sources with a veto. In this case, Sanford had vetoed the sources of cash to operate the Budget and Control Board.

The veto had prompted the board to raid a rural infrastructure fund to get operating money. The court ruling blocks that raid of cash. That raid had prompted the town of Timmonsville to challenge the veto.

It's now up to the Budget and Control Board to decide how to restore the money to the infrastructure fund.
