COLUMBIA (WACH) -- More people will be traveling over the river and through the woods this holiday weekend in South Carolina.

AAA expects the number of travelers, both on the road and in the air to increase by 3 to 4 percent over last year despite high gas prices and possible snow.

National gas prices hoover around $3 per gallon, while more locally here in South Carolina it's $2.82.

Forecasters are predicting a chance for snow flurries Saturday night into Sunday, so getting there may not be the problem.

Many may be flying and utilizing Columbia Metropolitan Airport.  Here is what you can expect if you are flying to one of the nine airports available from Columbia Metro:

Charlotte, NC:
This quick flight should be fine with not delays at either airport.  Also, if you're driving to Charlotte to catch a flight, the weather will be fine on Friday. The sky will turn partly cloudy by the mid afternoon, but precip chances won't happen until Saturday.

Atlanta, GA:
Just like Charlotte, this should be a smooth flight with pleasant weather.  By mid afternoon we'll see a partly cloudy sky, but rain chances will not move in until Saturday mid-morning.

Dallas, TX:
Flights between Columbia Metro and DFW could experience minor delays due to rain in the Dallas area throughout the day on Friday.  The last 30 minutes or so of the flight could have a few bumps of turbulence due to the active weather expected in Dallas on Friday.

Houston, TX (George Bush Intercontinental):
Morning flights to Houston look like they'll be fine, but late afternoon flights could experience minor delays due to showers and thunderstorms that will last into the evening.   Morning flight look smooth, but afternoon and evening flights will probably have light turbulence for the 30 to 45 minutes of the flights.

Washington D.C. (Dulles):
Flights between here and D.C. look to be in good shape with a mostly clear to partly cloudy sky for Friday.

Philadelphia, PA:
Like Washington, I expect great flying conditions between here and there.

New York, NY (La Guardia):
Continuing with the pleasant weather trend, Friday flights between Columbia and New York look like they'll be smooth with a mostly clear to partly cloudy sky.

Detroit, MI:
Flights to Detroit won't have weather delays on Friday.  However, expect a cloudy sky from mid-morning through most of the weekend in the Detroit area, with snow on Christmas Day.

Chicago, IL (O'Hare):
Chicago will more than likely give travelers on Friday a headache.  Snow should start in the Chicago areas early Friday morning and last for most of the holiday weekend.  I expect major delays, at times, for flights to and from Chicago.
