IRMO (WACH) -- The board of trustees for the Lexington-Richland 5 district has named an interim superintendent.

Effective January 1, 2011 Dr. Stephen Hefner will replace Dr. Herbert Berg who is retiring.

In a release the board issued a statement saying, "We are extremely appreciative of the leadership Dr. Herbert Berg has provided during the past two years.  We are confident that by naming an interim superintendent with such an outstanding record in South Carolina, and nationally, that the district will continue its progress and will have a seamless transition between these two excellent leaders."

Hefner retired from Richland School District Two in June after serving as superintendent for 16 years.
