COLUMBIA -- A Spring Valley High School science teacher receives a prestigious award.

President Obama named Michelle Spigner as a recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching.

According to the school's website, Spigner teaches A.P. Biology and Discover Biology at Spring Valley.

She'll receive her award later this year in Washington D.C. 

As part of the award, she gets $10,000 from the National Science Foundation.
