COLUMBIA -- There has been a recent increase in vehicle break-ins where thieves are targeting GPS devices.

The Columbia Police Department has responded to around 75 incidents involving electronic theft in the past two months.

Officials say either the devices were not secured or the mounting hardware could be seen from the outside of the vehicle.

Police urge motorists to remove valuables from your vehicle and place electronic mounting hardware out of site.
