CHARLESTON (AP) -- The four-star Army general who oversees U.S. forces in both the Iraq and Afghan wars told cadets at South Carolina's military college that he needs warriors who can do more than kill and capture the enemy.
Gen. David Petraeus told 2,100 cadets at The Citadel in Charleston that their studies will have to go beyond understanding how to prosecute war or call in air strikes.
The 57-year-old head of the U.S. Central Command said he needs officers who can negotiate with local authorities, understand how to rebuild societies torn apart by war and be leaders who understand their soldiers, sailors and airmen.
Petraeus is being inducted into The Citadel School of Business Administration's Hall of Fame.
