Stamping out hunger, one hour at a time

Dozens of Midlands teens will soon fast for 30 hours, in an effort to stamp-out hunger.
12-year-old Paul Gressette and his friends are trying to make a difference.
"I just know that somewhere out there, there's a kid that needs my help," said Gressette.
The pre-teen and his friends at Columbia's Trinity Episcopal Cathedral are raising awareness and money for the less fortunate, in an unorthodox way. The group will join forces with nearly 70 other young people to participate in a 30-hour famine to help end hunger.
"26,000 kids die every year from hunger diseases, and we want to help be a part of the solution," said Gressette.
Organizer Brian Silldorf says by going without food, the young people will get a taste of what the world's poorest children face everyday.
"It's exciting to see the students have the opportunity to be the teachers in this project," said Silldorf. They're teaching people in the community, their parents, and even people in our own church the importance of caring for others."
The famine will take place in March. The money raised will go towards helping people in Haiti continue their fight for survival. There is also help for those right here in the Midlands.
"We'll do a local service project where we'll collect canned goods for Harvest Hope Food Bank," said Silldorf.
"If I can get a lot of people involved then we can do something big," said Gressette.
The big changes, are beginning with small steps.
