COLUMBIA -- A Midlands medical office is bringing good news to roughly 40 families fighting cancer Monday morning by bringing them an early Christmas.
The medical office staff at S.C. Oncology Associates says it wanted to do something to help cancer patients and their families this holiday season that otherwise would have gone without.
"It is such an incredible feeling to give to those in need," said Nicole Snider. "Cancer is expensive so it takes the burden off of the patient when they know their family is taken care of," she says.
The office set up an "angel tree" in their Stoneridge Drive last month that lists suggested presents for the needy. Staff as well as patients and volunteers selected names from the tree and took responsibility for providing them gifts.
Several community organizations contributed to the event by either donating time or funds. SC Oncology says this event is something the staff and doctors look forward to every year.
These cancer patients will receive their gifts Monday.
