YORK COUNTY--Authorities say a thief broke into a South Carolina home, unwrapped and stole Christmas presents under the tree, then tried to burn it down.

Darcel Morris returned home last Friday to a smoke-filled apartment and crumpled wrapping paper strewn across her floor. The single Rock Hill mother said games, clothes and other gifts for her 7- and 2-year-old children were gone, along with her Xbox and DVD player.

Morris said she was gone only a few hours.

A York County Sheriff's Office report says someone had put a cloth on her stove and turned in on in an attempt to start a fire.

While investigating her break-in, officers discovered a neighbor's apartment was on fire. Someone had taken a TV, laptop and gaming systems there.
