GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (AP) -- Berkeley County Republicans are getting an early look at South Carolina's GOP gubernatorial candidates -- and those candidates are getting an early idea what voters are thinking.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports about 200 people are expected in Goose Creek on Saturday to hear GOP hopefuls and vote in a straw poll.

U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett and state Sen. Larry Grooms are appearing. But Republicans can vote for anyone expected to make the race.

The others on the ballot include state Rep. Nikki Haley, who has already announced, as well as Attorney General Henry McMaster and Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, who have not yet formally announced.

In June, 208 Republicans took a straw poll in Dorchester County with McMaster beating Bauer by a vote.
