COLUMBIA, SC -- A state trooper was attempting to stop the driver of a cadillac who was speeding along I-26 early Sunday morning when something went horribly wrong.

The driver continued speeding and tried to get off on the exit to Greystone Boulevard.

The officer continued following them on Broad River Road, at which time, the Cadillac collided with an SUV on Sunset Boulevard.

Richland County investigators say this could have ended much worse.

Deputy Monique Mack tells us the driver of the Cadillac did have to go into surgery, and was listed in critical condition.
