BANGKOK, THAILAND (AP) -- The capital of Thailand is in chaos as thousands of anti-government protesters roam the streets, attacking the prime minister's car.

Security forces there are doing little to restore order.

The man whose ouster from power in 2006 sparked years of turmoil is now threatening to return from exile and lead a "revolution."

Protesters erected roadblocks, commandeered buses and even danced atop two armored personnel carriers they had forced to stop in Bangkok.

A state of emergency is in effect.

Outside the Interior Ministry, a furious mob attacked the prime minister's car as nearby police in riot gear did nothing.

The car escaped, but the prime minister's secretary and his driver were also attacked and badly injured.

Today's events followed yesterday's shut down of an Asian summit by the protesters.

Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra (TAHK'-sin SHIN'-uh-wah) was ousted in a 2006 military coup and a court ordered the removal of his government for election fraud.
