(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A three-day event in Columbia is offering help to South Carolina homeowners struggling to pay their mortgages.

The Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America's "Save the Dream Tour" begins Friday at the Carolina Coliseum.

Organizers say the program has already helped thousands of homeowners nationwide keep their homes by restructuring mortgages and permanently reducing the interest rates of at-risk homeowners. There is no charge for the group's services.

NACA has signed agreements with major lenders and investors, allowing them to help homeowners restructure their home loan.

The group is coming to South Carolina at the request of U.S. House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn.

NACA has the most effective long-term mortgage solution for at-risk homeowners because it permanently reduces the interest rate to as low as 3% and if necessary reduces the outstanding principal based on what the homeowner can afford.

NACA's restructure solution has established the national standard for long-term solutions for thousands of owner-occupant homeowners.

This event is open to homeowners in financial difficulty who own only one property and occupy that home.  They will need to bring their mortgage statements and their most recent 30 days of pay stubs to event.
