BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Police in the northeastern South Carolina town of Bennettsville say a man is holding a woman hostage and a second woman was wounded as she left the home.
The incident started about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. A Bennettsville police spokeswoman said Thursday morning the stand-off was continuing. But she said she could offer no details and officers were at the scene.
Police Chief Larry McNeil said Wednesday that officers have been in contact with the suspect and are trying to resolve the situation peacefully. He said no shots have been exchanged between the suspect and officers.
Family members said a man armed with a gun went into the home of his girlfriend's mother. The mother escaped and the girlfriend's sister was shot in the ankle as she left. The girlfriend was being held.
