Plane makes emergency landing at Philly airport
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Everybody's OK after an emergency landing by a US Airways Express flight today in Philadelphia.
The plane landed without its nose landing gear.
The deHavilland Dash-8 turboprop had left Allentown for Philadelphia at about 8:20 a.m. with 35 passengers and three crew members on board.
Before landing, the crew got an indication that the landing gear wasn't down. A flyover confirmed it.
Fire crews spread foam on the runway as a precaution, but there was no smoke or fire when the plane landed without its nose wheels about an hour after it took off.
The airport had to be closed for about 25 minutes. The plane stayed on the runway, but the three other runways were able to reopen. Still, some incoming flights were delayed nearly three hours.
