CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say a lake that borders South Carolina and Georgia has dropped to an all-time low as the drought continues.

Data from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers shows Lake Hartwell is at 642 feet above sea level. That's below a former record set Dec. 24, 1981, by less than an inch.

The Greenville News reported Wednesday the lake is more than 17 feet below full pool. Forecasts from the state Climatology Office and the Corps predict a slightly warmer and drier winter than normal.

There could be some relief this weekend, with rain predicted Friday and Saturday.

Corps spokesman Billy Birdwell said the lake is not going to run out of water. The Corps is taking public comment on a proposal to reduce flow downstream.
