COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH/AP) -- Authorities say a 77-year-old man who refused to be checked by paramedics after crashing his car died a day later at the hospital.

Investigators say Peter Kremlick lost control of his van while trying to swerve to miss another car around 10 a.m. Saturday and hit a utility pole near the Columbiana Mall.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says Kremlick refused medical attention at the scene, but became confused with headaches several hours later.

WACH Fox contacted the family and Kremlick's sons said that their father did not refuse medical treatment.

Watts says Kremlick died at the hospital Sunday morning from a head injury suffered in the crash.

Columbia police are investigating the wreck.
