COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina's high court has put a stop to a recount of votes in Richland County.

The high court on Friday agreed with a request from the state Republican Party to stop reviewing ballots.

On Thursday, a circuit court judge granted a request from state Democrats to recount all ballots cast in House District 75, a disputed legislative race in the county that includes the state capital. That order was later expanded to all races in the county.

A cascade of Election Day problems delayed the county's unofficial results until late Wednesday. Officials cited long voting lines, too few machines and broken counting scanners. Some voters reportedly waited up to six hours.

The judge who ordered the original recount is slated to hear arguments in the case next Tuesday.
